    Lanse Scriven is the principal of Lansing C. Scriven, P.A.  A litigator for more than 20 years, Mr. Scriven concentrates his practice in the area of business litigation, handling a diverse range of business disputes. Mr. Scriven also has substantial experience in all phases of appellate litigation, including appeals of final judgments, interlocutory appeals, and extraordinary writs jurisdiction. Complementary to his litigation practice, Mr. Scriven serves as a Special Prosecutor for the State of Florida Judicial Qualifications Commission ("JQC"). He is a certified arbitrator on the Commercial Panel of the American Arbitration Association.

    His peers have recognized his legal ability and high ethical standards. Mr. Scriven is a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation. The Fellows' membership is limited to one-third of 1 percent of lawyers in America and is recognized as one of the preeminent attorney groups in the country. He has been recognized as a member of Florida Trend magazine's Legal Elite, the top 2 percent of lawyers practicing in Florida. Mr. Scriven has also been recognized as a Florida Super Lawyer, representing the top 5 percent of Florida's lawyers as chosen by their peers and through the independent research of Law & Politics. Mr. Scriven is also "AV" rated by Martindale-Hubbell, the highest ranking for ethical standards and legal ability.

    In addition to his law practice, Mr. Scriven contributes his time to bar activities and community affairs. He is a past President of the 3,900-member Hillsborough County Bar Association. He is a past Chairperson of the Business Litigation Committee of the Business Law Section of the Florida Bar and a past President of the Florida Chapter of the National Bar Association, a statewide bar association representing African-American lawyers and judges in the State of Florida. Mr. Scriven also served three terms as President of the George Edgecomb Bar Association, the local affiliate chapter of the National Bar Association.

    Notable among the many community activities in which he has been involved are his tenure as President of the Board of Directors of the Gasparilla Festival of the Arts and his service as President of The Tampa Club, the first African-American to hold that post in the Club's twenty-one year history. Mr. Scriven also served for approximately 5 years as a hearing officer for the City of Tampa's Women/Minority Business Enterprise Program Office and from 2001-2003 as counsel to the City of Tampa's Code Enforcement Board. In October, 2006, Mr. Scriven was appointed to a second three-year term on the Board of Directors of Tampa General Hospital, where he serves on the Executive Committee. He currently serves as Legal Counsel to the Board of Directors of the Greater Tampa Chamber of Commerce. In July 2007, he was appointed as a board member of the Tampa Housing Authority.

    Mr. Scriven is a former shareholder of the Tampa law firm of Trenam, Kemker, Scharf, Barkin, Frye, O'Neill & Mullis, P.A., where he practiced for 12 years. While at Trenam, Mr. Scriven was a member of the firm's Commercial Litigation, Construction Litigation, Employment, and Appellate Practice Groups. He also served as the firm's Hiring Partner.

    A native of Jacksonville, Florida, Mr. Scriven is a 1984 graduate of Duke University. After graduation from Duke, he attended the Florida State University College of Law from which he graduated with honors in 1987. While enrolled at Florida State, Mr. Scriven served as an editor for the Florida State University Law Review and as a member of the law school's Moot Court Team. Following law school, Mr. Scriven served as a Law Clerk to the Honorable Joseph W. Hatchett, former Chief Judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit.
